YAY! No More WAITING IN LINE at the M.O.T. To Renew Your Licence Plate Sticker

Finally, the M.O.T. is keeping up with the times. No more waiting in line to renew our licence plate sticker because now it can all be done online! If there’s one thing I hate more than anything is waiting in line.

You have until midnight of the expiry date to renew your sticker online otherwise you will have to go into an actual ServiceOntario centre – and wait in line. Ick!

It’s as easy as 1-2-3 and takes about 10 mins or less if you have all the below information on hand and ready to enter:

  • your licence plate number
  • valid credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express) or Interac® Online
  • your insurance company name and policy number
  • your odometer reading
  • you may also need to provide your
  • vehicle inspection certificate number
  • Drive clean six-character security code
You don’t get charged extra for this convenient service. The cost for renewing online is the same as renewing at a ServiceOntario centre.

You can even renew your licence plate sticker online 180 days before it expires but why would you want to? I usually wait a few weeks before.

And, if you’re cutting it close, like a few hours before midnight of the actual expiry date, that’s fine because once all the information is filled out, your online receipt (which can be downloaded or emailed to you to be printed off), will act as legal proof:

You will have to keep a copy of this proof in your vehicle until your new sticker arrives in the mail – within 5 business days. Yay! Now I can get on with more pressing things at hand!
