VIDEO: How a tired Air Canada pilot narrowly avoided a massive plane crash

Remember this incident from last summer? We can't be having any pilot fatigue when innocent lives are at stake. This could have been a major disaster. Major!...

Federal investigators are looking at what led to a nearly catastrophic event in San Francisco last summer, after an Air Canada pilot suddenly aborted a landing. The focus is on pilot fatigue, and Canada's transport minister says new rules are coming to ensure pilots get enough rest to stay alert.

VIDEO: Here's what's in your bottled water (Marketplace)

We've been waiting for a video like this, ever since reading about microplastics in our bottled water.
Companies are making money off of us for something they're selling that's contaminated and like the rest of Canada, we're not happy about it. Perhaps it's time to ditch the bottled water in favour of something easily abundant around us - and free. Tap water anyone?...

Ever wonder what's lurking in your bottled water? Marketplace asked a lab to test five of the top-selling brands of bottled water in Canada, and microplastics were found in all of them.

Inside Canada’s largest privately-owned nuclear fallout shelter (Facebook Video)

"... some things last and some things don't. ... we got these big jugs of V8 juice and after they got 10 years old they went completely black and so I drank a whole jug of V8 juice that was black and over 10 years old. You know, it didn't hurt me. It didn't taste good but I could drink it. And if you're starving that's the difference maybe between life and death."

How a Canadian built a DIY nuclear bunker from 42 buried buses and plenty of concrete

Fires, floods, thieves, rodents: The elderly couple has survived all manner of calamity in recent weeks, except for the one disaster they have actually been preparing for over the past 50 years — a nuclear war. Beach is the founder of Ark Two, a privately owned, 10,000-square-foot nuclear fallout shelter, sunk beneath several metres of concrete and soil on a 12.5 acre parcel of land near his home. And, yes, the 83-year-old is accustomed to being dismissed as a “kook.”
But maybe he’s onto something. - National Post

VIDEO: Kadyrov: "Homosexuals must be eliminated in order to purify the blood of the Chechen people."

Ramzan Kadyrov says there are no gay men in Chechnya - and if there are any, they should move to Canada

“They are devils. They are for sale. They are not people,” he says. “God damn them for what they are accusing us of. They will have to answer to the almighty for this.”

In an interview, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov denies reports that gay men are being detained and tortured in the Russian republic — not because such abuses would not be allowed, but because he thinks there are no gay men in Chechnya.

“This is nonsense,” Kadyrov said when asked about the allegations. “We don't have those kinds of people here. We don't have any gays. If there are any, take them to Canada.”

“Praise be to god,” the Chechen leader adds. “Take them far from us so we don't have them at home. To purify our blood, if there are any here, take them.”

VIDEO: Vinyl Ambush and Peel Region Police Jam Session!

So much for calling the police on a noise complaint. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em? ...
The police were called to a birthday party in Mississauga to investigate a band playing too loudly. The teenage members of Vinyl Ambush expected to get shut down, but to their surprise, one of the officers sat down at the drums and proved he had some musical chops of his own. - thestar

(Video snapshot)
Vinyl Ambush played a private event last night and it wasn't long before the Peel Police showed up. We thought the show was over but much to everyone's delight, they joined in for an incredible jam session. They were so impressed by the band instead of putting a stop to the show they wanted to join in then offered the band words of wisdom. Talk about community outreach. Many thanks to Peel Region Police for making it such a fun and memorable night for the Band and everyone there. You guys ROCK!

The 100-cup 'Roll Up The Rim' Challenge

YouTubers are purchasing Tim Hortons coffee cups in a 100-cup 'Roll Up The Rim' Challenge called the '100 Cups of Coffee', to really test the odds of winning (and probably hoping to win something big) - and it ain't cheap.  Some are said to be paying anywhere from $160 to $200 on empty coffee cups, depending on the cup size they order.

The inspiration came from another more popular YouTuber, “Furious Pete,” (Pete Czerwinski), who has been credited with coming up with the 100-cup idea. He posted a video of the challenge on Feb. 11.
“I’ve been thinking about doing it for years now,” Czerwinski told CTVNews.ca in a telephone interview on Wednesday from his home in Mississauga, Ont. “In my university days I remember getting Timmies like every single day while I was studying and I would never win. So I was just like ‘I need to win’.”

However, another YouTuber with the handle “ItsYeBoi” posted what appeared to be the first 100-cups video on Feb. 8:

CANADIAN WINGSUIT LEGEND GRAHAM DICKINSON FOUND DEAD | Ottawa SUN

Very sad to have learnt of Dickinson's death. He died doing what he loved. RIP. ...

From Ottawa Sun:
Friends and colleagues of a Canadian adventurer who died in China are flooding social media with glowing tributes, loving remembrances and some small measure of resignation at the inevitability of his demise.
The body of 28-year-old Graham Dickinson was found last Thursday on a cliff in the Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park in the central province of Hunan.
The day before, he posted a picture of the mountain on his Facebook page, accompanied by a smiling emoji and the description “feeling like he is dreaming.”
Dickinson was regarded as one of the best in the world at a sport called wingsuiting, in which athletes jump from high places and glide to the ground with the aid of aerodynamic body suits that make their wearers look a little like flying squirrels.

There have been numerous fatalities of wingsuit flying - almost since the inception of the sport but there were 2 that stood out in our minds because they occurred in Canada:
  • On May 9, 2007 - American adventurer and TV personality Jimmy Hall, age 41, was on an expedition to Baffin Island in northern Canada. After several days of successful jumps, Hall attempted a wingsuit flight through a canyon. He failed to clear a ledge, and impacted the cliff.
  • And back on June 26 of last year (2016), Gary Kremer, 30-year-old American basejumper and former U.S. Marine, died while wingsuit flying with friends in Canada.
