If you haven't heard by now, Canadian grocery chain, Sobeys, is creating something that is said to be the first of its kind in Canada. It's called the Smart Cart and no, it is not a substitution for workers of the human kind. At least, so it has been said. I'll believe it when I see it. I'm still trying to avoid self-check outs just for that sole purpose.
In the meantime, check out (get it?) more in the video below...
And if all that isn't good enough for your lazy ass for you, perhaps a Drive-thru supermarket is more up your 'aisle'. ...
Still ain't cuttin' it? Then this autonomous supermarket on wheels should do the trick...
Way to go Hamilton Police Service. Didn't know you guys were so talented, lol...
The Ottawa St. BIA threw down the gauntlet when they asked us to participate in the lip sync challenge. We accepted! Here's the result. We don't think anyone is going to recruit us to perform anytime soon, but we had a ton of fun making the video. We'll do "Whatever it Takes" for our community.
We've been waiting for a video like this, ever since reading about microplastics in our bottled water. Companies are making money off of us for something they're selling that's contaminated and like the rest of Canada, we're not happy about it. Perhaps it's time to ditch the bottled water in favour of something easily abundant around us - and free. Tap water anyone?...
Ever wonder what's lurking in your bottled water? Marketplace asked a lab to test five of the top-selling brands of bottled water in Canada, and microplastics were found in all of them.
Nasim Aghdam, the 38-year-old Iranian-born female who recently wounded three people at YouTube's California headquarters before fatally shooting herself was a woman with a grudge who blamed the video-sharing company for the loss of money and views.
Before social media sites such as Facebook, YouTube and Instagram pulled her content, a look at Nasim Aghdam's videos reveal someone who was upset with the video giant over the views on her channel.
Coming together as one to battle an inferno in Port Colborne... There was the Niagara Falls Fire Department, the Welland Fire and Emergency Services, the Fort Erie Fire Department, Thorold Fire and Emergency Services, Wainfleet Fire and Emergency Services, and the Pelham Fire Department all sending their equipment and manpower to fight the blaze.
“This is definitely the biggest fire with regard to the most involvement by multiple departments across the region that I have been involved with, and I’ve been in the fire service for 38 years.” - Port Colborne Deputy Chief Mike Bendia
A company that made patio furniture, above-ground pool and spa accessories was destroyed Tuesday after a massive fire spread throughout its Port Colborne facility along the Welland Canal.
More than 50 firefighters with tankers and pumpers from across the Niagara region responded to the blaze after Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services called on mutual aid to battle the inferno at Vinyl Works Canada at 2174 Barber Dr.

Eighty-seven new independent and large grocery stores in communities across Ontario will be authorized to sell beer and cider in April 2018. This is in addition to over 200 grocery stores across the province already authorized to sell beer and cider -- 70 of which can also sell wine.
We made a list for the Niagara Region. Finally, they've added St. Catharines to the list even though it appears it will only be selling beer and cider, for now...
UPDATE: Apparently this rat is not a rat but a Pacarana, a rare and slow-moving rodent indigenous to South America. However, in the wild, (without the soap of course), they do look like they're bathing as can be seen in the second video below.
***********
Nothing to see here, just a RAT HAVING A SHOWER... like a human!
The rat was captured lathering it up in a bathroom sink in Peru standing up on its hind legs and washing his armpits, neck, lips, butt...
"... some things last and some things don't. ... we got these big jugs of V8 juice and after they got 10 years old they went completely black and so I drank a whole jug of V8 juice that was black and over 10 years old. You know, it didn't hurt me. It didn't taste good but I could drink it. And if you're starving that's the difference maybe between life and death."
How a Canadian built a DIY nuclear bunker from 42 buried buses and plenty of concrete
Fires, floods, thieves, rodents: The elderly couple has survived all manner of calamity in recent weeks, except for the one disaster they have actually been preparing for over the past 50 years — a nuclear war. Beach is the founder of Ark Two, a privately owned, 10,000-square-foot nuclear fallout shelter, sunk beneath several metres of concrete and soil on a 12.5 acre parcel of land near his home. And, yes, the 83-year-old is accustomed to being dismissed as a “kook.” But maybe he’s onto something. - National Post
Ramzan Kadyrov says there are no gay men in Chechnya - and if there are any, they should move to Canada
“They are devils. They are for sale. They are not people,” he says. “God damn them for what they are accusing us of. They will have to answer to the almighty for this.”
In an interview, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov denies reports that gay men are being detained and tortured in the Russian republic — not because such abuses would not be allowed, but because he thinks there are no gay men in Chechnya.
“This is nonsense,” Kadyrov said when asked about the allegations. “We don't have those kinds of people here. We don't have any gays. If there are any, take them to Canada.”
“Praise be to god,” the Chechen leader adds. “Take them far from us so we don't have them at home. To purify our blood, if there are any here, take them.”

Lakeport Fish Chips:

Scary. This incident occurred yesterday - and it was all captured on camera!...
Footage of a car slamming into a Niagara-on-the-Lake restaurant has surfaced.
It happened Tuesday afternoon at Silk's Country Kitchen on Niagara Stone Road.
Police say the driver of the car put it in drive instead of reverse and drove into restaurant. - 610CKTB
Blair Robertson Psychic Medium Car Crash
Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes. Wendy and I appreciate it very much, and I have passed those thoughts onto Eddie Diijon. I got the CCTV footage of the incident from the management of the Silk's Country Kitchen in Virgil, near Niagara-On-The-Lake.
I cannot believe we walked away from this. To be clear: we are NOT "okay." In my case, I'm clear to fly but need immediate followup. I'll be seeing the docs tomorrow. I'm battered and bruised, have a nasty headache and assorted aches and pains. Not fun. What's holding me/us together is that I'm ALIVE.
The driver was NOT charged. She refused medical attention. They cleared her of alcohol being a factor, but nothing else is known of her mental health, prescription drugs, etc. For reasons entirely unknown to me, she was allowed to simply go home. I WILL be pursuing this in due course, but for now, I need to get home and get taken care of.
BLESS all of you for your love and energy. I truly appreciate it. And if you're ever in the vicinity, check out Silks for fantastic food and great service. Tell them Blair sent you. :-) <3

That's one huge sea lion - and it all happened so fast! The sea lion dragged a young girl into the waters at the Steveston Fisherman's Wharf in Richmond, B.C.
Thankfully, as you'll see, the little girl was rescued immediately.
Initially, after watching the video, we were curious as to why the sea lion showed an interest in the girl but discovered later (after reading the CBC news article), that it probably thought her dress was food!
According to SFU student Michael Fujiwara, the guy who captured it on video, the family began feeding it bread crumbs as the young girl got closer to the edge of the dock.
Andrew Trites, the director of UBC's Marine Mammal Research Unit, does not blame the animal for its behaviour in the video, according to another CBC news article:
"My first reaction to the video is just how stupid some people can be to not treat wildlife with proper respect," he said. "This was a male California sea lion. They are huge animals. They are not circus performers. They're not trained to be next to people."
According to Canada's Marine Mammal Regulations, "no person shall disturb a marine mammal except when fishing."
Trites says the sea lion in the video looks like it is used to having people feed it.
It's a good thing it didn't bite her when it dragged her in because their bites "can cause very serious infections that may lead to amputation of a limb or even death."
An undercover agent perhaps? Maybe not - but they seem to be everywhere in Toronto - on the subway, in a baby stroller and let's not even talk about the one captured doing the tightrope walk across some power lines back in 2013!
This latest one made headlines when he was spotted peeking out from the ceiling, checking out the passengers below in the baggage claim section at Toronto Pearson International Airport,...

Famed rock climber and mountaineer, Ueli Steck, won two Piolet d'Or awards, in 2009 and 2014. He was also famous for his speed records on the North Face trilogy in the Alps.
Steck died on April 30, 2017, while acclimatizing for an attempt of the Hornbein route on the West Ridge of Everest without supplemental oxygen. This route had been climbed only few times the last of which was in 1991. His plan was to then proceed with a traverse to the peak of Lhotse, the world's fourth highest mountain. This combination had not been achieved. During a preparatory climb on Nuptse, a smaller peak near Everest, Steck fell about 1000m.
His death was the first casualty of the Everest climbing season.
“Failure for me would be to die and not come home.” - Ueli Steck
Remembering Ueli Steck...
It was reported that back in April 2013, Steck and two other mountaineers, Simone Moro and Jonathan Griffith, were involved in an altercation with local Sherpas while on the west face of Mount Everest - so much so that it became an international media event. This led me to ask, 'Who are these Sherpas anyways?' Well, they are an ethnic group from the most mountainous region of Nepal, the Himalayas and they climb for a living...
WHY SHERPAS CLIMB
Although the climbing industry has taken a heavy toll on Sherpa families, it has also brought income and opportunity. Sherpas talk about why they risk such danger—such as the avalanche on Mount Everest that killed 16 expedition workers on April 18, 2014—to help climbers summit difficult peaks.
With all the news going on about North Korea lately, seeing this rare and recent Facebook video footage, (shot by Foreign Editor, YLE's Asian correspondent, Mika Mäkeläinen) of the streets of the country's capital city, gives us a glimpse into the daily life, the roads and city landscape there.
(Video snapshot)
I was so intrigued by the video that I was constantly stopping and starting, to take snapshot images of the things I found interesting. For example, I was curious as to what that huge monument in the middle was - so I had to look it up.
Premier Kathleen Wynne's announcement on Ontario's basic income pilot project. Three cities that will be taking part in the project include Hamilton, Lindsay and Thunder Bay.
"The project will explore the effectiveness of providing a basic income to people who are currently living on low incomes, whether they are working or not. People participating in our pilot communities will receive a minimum amount of income each year— a basic income, no matter what." (24:21 mark in the video)
She then goes on to say:
"It's not an extravagant sum by any means. For a single person we're talking about just under $17,000 a year. But even that amount may make a real difference to someone who's striving to reach a better life."
105 years ago today, the 'unsinkable' did the unthinkable....
The sinking of the RMS Titanic occurred on the night of 14 April through to the morning of 15 April 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean, four days into the ship's maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. The largest passenger liner in service at the time, Titanic had an estimated 2,224 people on board when she struck an iceberg at around 23:40 (ship's time) on Sunday, 14 April 1912. Her sinking two hours and forty minutes later at 02:20 (05:18 GMT) on Monday, 15 April resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 people, which made it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.
